My heart and mind are in a constant war;
I long for peace between their separate nations.
The wages are a cost I can’t afford,
And conflict only ends in more inflation.
Every breath I take remembers every kiss,
Yet every thought is laced with my defeat;
My mind insists my heart surrender this,
Still unconvinced, it loves with every beat.
You unwittingly or knowingly become
The Helen to my Paris
in this fight;
You smile and I know, again, you’ve won –
You are the catalyst that changes my whole life.
In this battle, my soul’s consumed with guilt;
My health declines, my spirit wracked with grief.
For mine is not the only heartache felt;
Each new skirmish claims more casualties.
