                                                              "Like the Stars"

Like the stars, burning in heaven's languid sea,

                                             So I burn for you, true confessions made.

                                             Also, like a dying star, let us be

                                             Content in knowing Fate her hand has stayed.

                                             Briefly, even fleeting, I held your favor,

                                             And your heart and love did I possess;

                                             Immortality as this can never waver,

                                             It surpasses tepid love, even death.

                                             And intense feelings, even shortly felt,

                                             Ten times polite affections are they worth,

                                             For life, like love, at Time's alter have I knelt;

                                             In both begins our death the moment of our birth.

                                             In life and love we perish all too soon;

                                             Death, on pale wings, descends and captures you.

                      "Without"

My flaws are numbered as the grains of sand

That line the shores of misery and doubt;

Self-loathing is the rope that binds my hands,

And self-distrust assures that I'm without.

Perhaps I trusted more than words conveyed,

Or, believed your words, instead of your intent –

I didn't see the clever game you played,

I didn't realize I'd soon lose again.

The promises of men are very cheap,

Like gentle kisses, lies fall from your lips.

I swear I heard you swear you'd never leave;

In swearing thus, I marked your greatest fib.

The day is slowly fading into night,

In bleakest dark, I mourn the failing light.

"Goodbye"

Before I say goodbye,

I'll linger just a while,

Once more I'll hear your laughter,

And I'll drink in every smile.

Before I say goodbye,

I'll think on every word;

The lawlessness that fueled my soul,

Those moments, I'll preserve.

Before I say goodbye

I'll remember your embrace;

I won't touch you, though I'll want to,

Only memorize your face.

Because goodbye means I can't go

Wherever you are going;

Someone else will share your life and

I'll be forced to live not knowing.

And when you finally say goodbye

I promise I won't cry,

But with every step you take away

Inside, my love, I'll die.

                            "Stone"

     Imperfection colors everything that is me,

     But my love for you is perfect as the stars.

     Your eyes, your smile, this isn't all I see;

     My heart craves every piece of who you are.

     If I could name the callous game you play,

     Or look through the charade of what you feel,

     The knowing could not take my love away;

     The soul will not recant a binding deal.

     And those who call me foolish, I'll defy –

     Hypocrites!  Or virgins of the heart;

     I'll not relinquish pain or blissful sigh;

     Easier to stall the moon, or evening's start.

     Like a stone, I'll weather every mood;

     Do what you will, and know my love for you.
